Contact lenses have become popular as an alternative to
wearing glasses full time because they can offer greater
freedom, convenience and safety for sports activities.
Contact lenses can also provide more flexibility in choosing
your own eye colour, from subtle to dramatic colours, to
enhance or completely change your existing eye colour.
Coloured contact lenses are also available with or without a
corrective prescription.
how do I get contact lenses?
Even if you already have a glasses prescription, or donít require
any visual correction, youíll still need to have a contact lens
consultation with an eye-care practitioner - usually an
optometrist or ophthalmologist. The consultation differs from
a regular eye examination, as an optometrist needs to measure the
surface of your eye. But donít worry it doesnít hurt!
Optometrists then prescribe a contact lens designed to suit
the way you live your life, then check that your lenses fit
correctly and comfortably, and provide clear vision. You will
also be shown how to insert and remove them safely, and how
to clean and care for your new contact lenses.
how long does it take to get contact lenses?
Depending on your prescription and lens design, some
disposable lenses are available on the spot at your local OPSM
store. Those that have to be ordered are generally available
from 2-7 working days.
how often should I get my eyes tested for contact lenses?
A contact lens consultation is recommended every 12 months
or as recommended by your optometrist.
whatís the latest in contact lens technology?
