diabetes can weaken or cause changes in the tiny blood vessels in the retina of your eye, resulting in blood leakage, the growth of new blood vessels and other changes. When this occurs it is called diabetic retinopathy. This condition can seriously affect vision, and if left untreated can cause blindness.
