To our OPSM Community,

As we continue to travel these uncharted waters through the next days and weeks, our utmost priority is the safety of our customers and employees.

Following the New Zealand Government’s announcement yesterday that all non-essential services must close to stop the spread of COVID-19 in New Zealand, we will be closing all OPSM stores in New Zealand until further updates from the government.

This closure is effective from Wednesday, 24th March 2020. We will keep you updated when our stores are open for you to visit again.

We understand you have many questions like when you can collect your glasses that you recently ordered or what to do if you have an ocular emergency. We are working to understand how we can still support you during this time. We will come back to you as soon as we have an update.

We are always here to help and are happy to answer all of your questions. Please don’t hesitate to contact our Customer Care team on

We hope you all stay healthy and safe during these times. We’re all in this together. Kia kaha!

Additional measures to protect you, our people and our community

Our hearts and thoughts go out to all those impacted by these unprecedented circumstances. We really appreciate the healthcare workers, scientists and leaders who are working hard to contain this coronavirus.

Community is at the heart of everything we do. We’ve been the trusted experts in eye care for the last 80 years and we will continue to deliver high quality eye care and eye wear during this challenging time.

As united members of the community, we want to openly share the additional measures we are taking to protect our customers, our people and the community in these uncertain times.

• We’ve implemented vigilant cleaning protocols to minimise contaminants in the factories where our products are made, our distribution centres, our stores and our company workplaces.

• Every day, our stores are undergoing a deep cleaning process with special attention to frequently touched surfaces. Every piece of technology, from our eyecare equipment to our associates’ iPads to registers to digital screens, is being thoroughly cleaned. All shelves, trays, light switches and doorknobs are cleaned multiple times a day.

To ensure we are doing everything we possibly can, we’ve also established an Emergency Response Team to continually evaluate and respond, in real time, to the evolving situation. Our proactive approach incorporates the guidance of the WHO (World Health Organisation) and relevant health authorities.

Your safety is our number one priority, so we’ve requested that if any team member feels unwell, they should remain at home and we encourage our customers to do the same. In the best interests of the community, when you’re booking an eye-exam our team members will ask additional pre-screening questions to ensure you don’t pose a risk.

Our stores remain open and our dedicated teams are standing by to provide you with top quality care and service. When you visit OPSM, you can have peace of mind knowing that significant health precautions are being taken to ensure your safety.
